Underwater navigation is very difficult since the range of view is very limited depending on the clarity of the water. Up to now recreational divers are only supported by a compass for their navigation back to the ship.

In our project we intend to develop a Navigation System which is based on MEMS inertial sensors and keeps track of the actual diver position. So the system is able to guide the diver back to ship.
